Overview of a Concrete Epoxy Flooring Project Located in NJ
This was an exciting project for us, as it involved PSEG, the state largest utility company. It was located in Keyport, NJ and involved resurfacing of their concrete epoxy flooring. It was done over a holiday shutdown, allowing us to work longer hours and provide a return to service as quickly as possible. We travel a lot, given the high demand for our services, so we were thankful that this project was in New Jersey. It was not limited to an epoxy resin floor, but it included predetermined line striping to meet all OSHA and facility standards.
Project Details For This Commercial Epoxy Flooring Project
This facility was basically a large repair shop for their equipment. That processed involved a lot of heavy equipment traversing the commercial epoxy flooring resurfacing, including but not limited to large cranes lifting, and on occasion dragging machinery across the floor.
This system needed to be as robust as possible, always keeping in mind their need to maintain their annual budget, so we were conscience of the epoxy flooring cost associated with this epoxy floor installation. We specified an epoxy slurry system with an added aggregate to increase the impact resistance, along with an aliphatic urethane topcoat, ensuring both color and sheen retention as well as enhancing the epoxy flooring system's scratch resistance. Finally, as laid out by our client, we reapplied their safety line striping.
The Challenges of This Commercial Epoxy Flooring System
This process was well thought out between the client and our team, making the project go very well. Of course, nothing is perfect, as we needed to be particularly careful around the equipment as it was sensitive to dust and dirt. As a result, we were sure to maintain a good running HEPA vacuum system to ensure clean preparation. While every job has time restraints, this epoxy flooring project had a good window of time, as a result of preplanning our client who paved a clear path for our success.
The Installation Process of Our Epoxy Resin Floor System
We started the project by identifying any sensitive areas, and addressing the same. As previously mentioned, we were sure to have a complete fleet of our state-of-the-art HEPA vacuum units available for this client.
We then mechanically abraded the substrate to meet the manufacturer's specifications, and began to apply our epoxy coating. Since it was a 100% solid epoxy resin we were able to continue onto to our epoxy slurry system immediately. Once the slurry was applied we broadcast our previously determine gritty aggregate.
The next day we remove all excess aggregates and carefully inspected the now partially complete epoxy flooring system. Once our project coordinator confirmed the previous day's work met our high standards, the team moved onto the epoxy grout coat.
On day three we applied our color retaining and scratch resistant aliphatic urethane topcoat.
On our final day, we masked and applied our safety lines to match the client's desire.
